Handling a disgruntled boss, on his way out

My manager is poison to our organization and I believe he will be leaving the company within the next few months. I’m concerned about collateral damage to the team as he goes into a tailspin on his way out. His manager’s competence is also in question which creates an interesting work environment to say the least. Is there any podcast, blog or article that addresses this situation? Thanks

I would strongly caution that you're not responsible for fixing your boss (or his boss for that matter). You can get yourself into a lot of issues trying to do what you THINK should be your boss' priorities versus actual concerns. If your boss is not being unethical or criminal, be careful in how you draw conclusions about their performance.
