BLUFF: How can I list a workshop presentation as a resume accomplishment?
I was invited to design and facilitate a two hour workshop in my subject area for a local government program. I received positive feedback for my presentation and I'd like to include this on my resume as an accomplishment, but not sure how to. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
E

What value did it bring to the organisation?
It's important to always relate your accomplishments back to the business benefit. Why did you do the two-hour workshop? What good things happened as a result, that wouldn't have happened otherwise? "Improved knowledge of chocolate teapot manufacturing techniques amongst thirteen district managers by developing and presenting two hour workshop" could be one possible accomplishment. It's hard to tell you exactly what to write, because you haven't given any specifics of your situation, but if you think "why did I do this?", I've found the accomplishment usually falls out the bottom fairly easily.
A quick and dirty way to quantify
Did you give everyone a feedback form after the presentation where you got people to rate the presentation? If not, you should do it if you're able.
That'd be a quick and dirty way to quantify the value.
For example: "85% of workshop attendees rated their knowledge of chocolate teapot manufacturing techniques as "substantially improved" because of two hour workshop"
I'm sure you can finesse that into a better MT worded bullet, but you get the idea.
The workshop was a community
The workshop was a community event and unfortunately, there were no feedback forms.
Mattpalmer, your example is quite helpful. And, the question of "Why did I do this" is v. useful and one I'll continue to keep in mind. Even though I've listened to the resume podcast myriad times, I always struggle with accomplishments.
Much appreciation guys.
