I have been asked to interview for a job - not the one I originally applied for. Heh, still good news. But the job is noted as a 6 month contract. Is it ok to ask why it's a 6 month contract and not a full time role? It could be a new position in which case the position might be a "test" or it could be I'm replacing someone on leave etc. Just interested to find out if it's "the done thing to ask" It could be considered a little forward and negotiating too early. Yes, if necessary...
Dale,
I'd say you could ask the question if necessary. You can probably find a way to engage the interviewer, asking questions about the responsibilities of the role, the metrics for success in the role, and what made the previous person in that role successful (or not). This approach would likely lead to the answer you seek. Turn on that high I in you... you'll get the answer you seek. If by chance you still don't have an inkling as the interview is winding down... ask.

Follow up... - I asked...
I asked.. - couldn't help myself but do so...
The role was new and they were 'trying it out'. so in the end - their lack of commitment, and my lack of enthusiasm probably came through in the interview... - I send thank-you's to all involved - and have lived to fight another day.
