Resume CV file format .doc or .rtf?

Is it best to send CVs and resumes in .doc, .rtf, or another format? Thanks.

 .doc is the best format.  you can't be sure that a .rtf will be linked to a standard program by the company and non-savvy users might wonder what type of document it is.  Many companies haven't upgraded from Office 2003, so .doc is safer than .docx or other formats.

I agree - .doc is the best format. Sometimes it is as well possible to upload different versions of the same document. So you should only chose .docx if you upload .doc as well.

Personally I like PDF for emailing CVs, especially when the formatting is as tight as it often is on MT CVs.
There is no chance of formatting or font changes, no matter which system, software, or printer they are using.
If the PDF is created as a standard, non-protected format, then then can even highlight and copy/paste text from the CV.
 
Although - if you were sending it to someone who is going to chop it up and put it into a database, like a recruiter, then i'd stick to .doc format.
