I am a new hire (not a new manager) hired over an internal candidate

Hello MT'ers, I was recently brought in to a consulting firm because of my industry experience in the vertical in which they want to grow. Great news, right? What I just found out is one of my directs (who has been at the firm for a few years) is a little more than upset that he did not get the job. Any advice on this situation? Thanks, -Scooter
